Learn Guzheng, Experience Excellence

Menghua Guan got her a Master’s degree in Music at Nanjing Normal University and is a member of the Jiangsu Musicians Association. She has been repeatedly honored as an “Outstanding Guzheng Instructor” in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, and was recognized by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education as an “Outstanding Music Theory Instructor.”

Starting in 2005, she served as a professional Guzheng and Music Theory tutor in the Music Department of the Art College at Changzhou Institute of Technology. Since relocating to Chicago in 2012, she has continued her work in Guzheng performance, education, and promotion. In 2015, she founded the Menghua Guzheng Studio and the Menghua Guzheng Ensemble, cultivating a new generation of Guzheng performers in the Greater Chicago area.

As a scholar, she has published eight articles in core academic journals, including “A Study on the Themes of Henan Guzheng Music” and “On the Distinction Between Refined and Popular Aesthetics in Qin and Zheng Music.” She also serves as a professional judge for national instrument competitions. Her students have won over 30 awards in intrnational and national competitions for both Guzheng performance and music theory.

By invitation of Roosevelt University, University of Wisconsin, College of DuPage etc, she has conducted Guzheng lectures and solo concerts. In June 2018, she was invited by the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic to perform the concerto “Fantasy of Fighting the Typhoon” at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Notably, during the Lunar New Year celebrations of 2025 and 2026, she was invited by the NBA Chicago Bulls to perform the U.S. and Canadian National Anthems as Guzheng solos at the United Center.
